Istvan Sandorf

Istvan was born in 1948. In Budapest.
Istvan (known as Etienne) Schandorf was born in Budapest in 1948. His father was a director of American company IBM in Hungary. Because of this, he sat for five years in Stalin's camps during the Communist rule, and his family was deported to an isolated Hungarian village. During the 1956 uprising Schandorf family fled the country and became exiles, first in Germany, then in France. Strongly affected by the violence of the revolution and the aberrations of the political system as a whole, Schandorf found solace in painting, and then, when he was 12, he began to paint in oils.
Art became his main passion at the expense of learning. At age 17, while studying in high school, Schandorf held his first solo exhibition in a small gallery in Paris. After his second exhibition in 1966 he abandoned painting to devote himself exclusively to painting.

By virtue of ugliness pictures son and lack of commercial success, his father gave Stephen Schandorf the School of Fine Arts, where he was to get a degree, and the School of Decorative Arts.
This would give him a more prestigious status than "artist". Gradually he achieved financial independence of the adoption decision, as well as random selling paintings, custom portraits and several advertising illustrations. In 1973 Schandorf spent his first significant exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.

For about fifteen years, he has written a number of large-scale self-portraits, theater and aggressive, which gave him a mixed reputation among dealers and the public. It was written that he draws as a murderer. His paintings began to have real success only since 1988, when the artist abandoned his disturbing images ...

He preferred not exclusive contracts for financial reasons, but because they wanted to avoid the administrative aspects of his career and professional environment, with whom he could not identify sebya.V 1970s he began to use myself as an artist's model, since he did not like when people looked, how it works ...
Sandor worked with the gallery Beaubourg from 1974 to 1976, and then for seven years with galleries Isa Brachot. From 1984 to 1988 his work has been exhibited in various galleries and collectors interested patrons, and then became the property of the gallery Prazan-Fitoussi from 1990 to 1993.

From 1994 to 2001, his paintings were exhibited exclusively Jane Kahan Gallery in New York. Internally self-taught in work and in life, from childhood Schandorf not trust what is being taught, and stayed true to his personal beliefs. He prefers to paint at night, but every day, goes to bed later than the day before, so living forever on the time remaining on that isolated him from any social life, thereby maintaining the delicate and achieved a balance between life and his work.

In his paintings he portrayed strange objects or very strange movements and situations. The colors of his works 1970-1980's - blue, lilac and their cold combinations. In the 1980s, he painted more female form and still lifes. Since 1988, he painted mostly women ...

His first exhibition was held in Hungary in 2006 in Budapest, and then in 2007 there was an exhibition in Debrecen. It was the first time he returned to Hungary since he left the country as a child.

He died after a brief illness December 26, 2007 and, according to his will, he was buried in Budapest ...

It is impossible, for some reason, to imagine that this is no longer the master of the world of the living, when they are in good health, they perpetuated the model. Apparently, the distortion effect gives a sense of contemporary ...
Such thoughts arise when considering Uma Thurman on canvas, created by the talented realist of our time Istvan Sandorf.

Sandorf claimed that a clear reflection of reality in the oil is not art at all, but the gift of your time. The same can be done in a moment and with the camera. And Istvan not recreated, and modeled in their work a different reality. But did not belong, at the same time, the Surrealists - all that he painted, could well meet in reality. But not everyone can smile is happiness. Suddenly, distorted world, as if winking his audience - shares intimate secrets. Ghostly images of worlds and unfinished canvases Sandorfi become a unique symbol of a lost generation, crippled regime change and revolution, has lost faith in justice and happy future ...

But they have left an indelible trace of his life and
devastated the soul of a man who had seen and experienced too much ...
