Stepan Fedorovich Kolesnikov greatly appreciated Ilya Repin. History has preserved for us a few of his letters to the artist. One, the most interesting, clearly characterizes the ratio of Repin's creativity Kolesnikov:
"Dear Stephen, I'm sorry, I forgot your patronymic. All morning today Enjoy the pictures of your work, now only left the Jura; with him again with a strong, a good lamp is once again considering your entire exhibition. Oh! What you excellent artist. Very, very thank you and your letter is good, the beautiful, and photos. Jura especially from the horses, and I love the horse, and we - just feasting! Thank you! Thank you! And I do not know how to thank Ivan Stepanovich Maykovich! What, however, he is a poet. But here begins my grief: for I do not know the language! And how much gives Serbia! Hail! Hail! ..
Your old friend,
very old Ilya Repin. "
